The Foundation for Black Communities (FFBC) has launched the Black Ideas Grant (B.I.G.) 3.0, an $8 million funding program designed to support Black-mandated, Black-led, and Black-serving (B3) nonprofit organizations across Canada. This initiative provides one-year, flexible grants to empower community-based projects that tackle systemic inequalities and improve social and economic well-being.
Strategic Focus
Eligible proposals must align with at least one of the following key focus areas:
- Combating Anti-Black Racism
- Improving Social Outcomes
- Improving Economic Outcomes
Projects should demonstrate measurable impact, sustainable outcomes, and innovative approaches that strengthen Black communities nationwide.
Grant Streams & Amounts
Organizations may apply for funding under one of three streams based on their operational capacity and project goals:
- Core Stream: Up to $30,000 for organizational development and operational support.
- Catapult Stream: Up to $80,000 for launching or expanding innovative community projects.
- Community Spaces Stream: Up to $200,000 for capital improvements or social infrastructure investments.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be Black-mandated, Black-led, and Black-serving (B3)
- Address at least one of the program’s core focus areas
- Align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Social Determinants of Health
- Operate within Canada and complete projects by March 31, 2027

The Black Ideas Grant builds on the Foundation for Black Communities’ commitment to equity-driven philanthropy. Previous rounds have successfully funded dozens of Black-led initiatives across Canada, promoting social justice, entrepreneurship, and community development. Through B.I.G. 3.0, FFBC continues to strengthen the capacity of B3 organizations to design and deliver impactful, community-centered solutions.
