The University of Edinburgh, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, invites applications for its fully funded postgraduate scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year. This initiative supports exceptional young African leaders who demonstrate academic excellence, a strong commitment to service, and resilience in overcoming barriers to education.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold citizenship, residency, or refugee status in an African country, including North Africa.
- Be academically qualified for admission to a relevant postgraduate programme at the University of Edinburgh (normally equivalent to at least a UK 2:1 Honours degree).
- Be 35 years old or younger at the start of the programme (born on or after 1 January 1991).
- Have not previously completed a postgraduate degree (for most on-campus programmes).
- Provide official academic documents (degree certificate and transcripts) before the deadline.
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills, community engagement, and a commitment to positive social change, particularly in areas related to climate justice or sustainable development.
- Show evidence of having faced and overcome significant barriers to accessing higher education, whether social, financial, personal, or health-related.
Applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds, women, individuals with disabilities, and those from refugee or displaced communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
