Programme Staff – Trade and Development (Royal Danish Embassy, Nairobi)

The Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join its team as Programme Staff, Trade and Development. Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide strategic, analytical, and operational support to the Embassy’s Trade and Development Department. Core duties include:

  • Programme Coordination: Assist in the design, planning, and management of trade and development projects, ensuring they align with Denmark’s objectives and local priorities.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct research on emerging market trends, investment opportunities, and key sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, digital innovation, and manufacturing.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong partnerships with government institutions, private sector actors, civil society organizations, and international agencies to promote sustainable trade and business development.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Track project progress, assess performance indicators, identify risks, and prepare detailed reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Event Organization: Coordinate trade missions, workshops, and networking events that connect Danish enterprises with Kenyan and regional partners.
  • Policy Dialogue: Contribute to policy discussions and knowledge-sharing initiatives that promote green growth, innovation, gender equality, and inclusive economic development.

The role will require a proactive and resourceful individual capable of managing multiple tasks while maintaining a strong focus on results and quality.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should demonstrate a solid academic background, professional expertise, and an understanding of East Africa’s economic and development landscape.

Essential qualifications include:

  • A university degree in economics, international trade, development studies, business administration, or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of relevant work experience in trade promotion, development cooperation, investment facilitation, or private-sector development.
  • Sound understanding of the East African business environment, including knowledge of key sectors driving growth and development.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, synthesize information, and communicate findings clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in Swahili will be an added advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to work effectively across cultures and sectors.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently, take initiative, and deliver results under minimal supervision.

Applicants with experience working within international organizations, embassies, or donor-funded projects will have a competitive advantage.
