The Lancaster University Ghana Pre-Bar Programme 2026/2027 is a professional legal training pathway designed for LLB graduates who wish to meet the requirements for admission into the Law Practice Training (LPT) programme in Ghana. The programme is offered by Lancaster University Ghana in line with the directives of the Director of Legal Education and the Ghana School of Law under the Legal Education Act, 2026 (Act 1170).
The one-year programme serves as a transitional bridge for law graduates whose academic curriculum does not fully align with the new legal education framework introduced in Ghana. It combines face-to-face teaching, online learning, and independent study to prepare students for the next stage of professional legal education.
Applications are open to Lancaster University Ghana law graduates as well as graduates from other Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC)-accredited institutions. Upon successful completion of the programme, eligible participants can proceed to apply for the Law Practice Training programme, subject to the requirements of the Ghana School of Law.
The Pre-Bar Programme was introduced following reforms to Ghana's legal education system under the Legal Education Act, 2026. It is intended to help qualifying LLB graduates acquire the additional knowledge and competencies required before entering the Law Practice Training programme.
Lancaster University Ghana is among the institutions offering this programme in accordance with the new legal education framework. The university is a branch campus of Lancaster University in the United Kingdom and its academic programmes are approved by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The programme follows a blended learning model, allowing students to benefit from classroom lectures, online seminars, and guided independent learning. Teaching is delivered by experienced legal academics, judges, and legal practitioners who help participants strengthen both their academic understanding and practical legal skills.
