Nutrition International (NI). · New Delhi
Nutrition International is seeking an experienced public health and nutrition professional for the position of Project Director, Preconception Nutrition and Care, based in New Delhi, India. This senior leadership opportunity is designed for a professional with extensive experience in public health programmes, nutrition, reproductive health, programme management and strategic partnerships.
The role will involve leading an initiative that aims to improve women’s nutritional health before pregnancy and strengthen the integration of preconception care into India's health system. The project focuses on reaching couples of reproductive age with nutrition interventions, health services and counselling before pregnancy, helping women enter pregnancy healthier and better nourished.
The Project Director will oversee project implementation, coordinate with government authorities and development partners, manage financial resources, supervise a multidisciplinary team and ensure that project activities deliver measurable results. The position also involves working with donors, research institutions, implementing organisations and other stakeholders to promote evidence informed approaches to nutrition and reproductive health.
Nutrition International is a global organisation dedicated to improving nutrition and health outcomes, particularly for women, adolescent girls and children in vulnerable communities. It works with governments, donors, research institutions and implementing partners to expand access to effective nutrition interventions and strengthen health systems.
The Preconception Nutrition and Care project seeks to address nutritional needs before pregnancy rather than focusing exclusively on health services delivered after conception. By integrating nutrition interventions, counselling, evidence generation and government collaboration, the initiative aims to support healthier pregnancies and better maternal and birth outcomes.
The Project Director will provide strategic and operational leadership throughout implementation. The successful candidate will help translate project objectives into practical workplans, ensure resources are managed responsibly, support partner coordination and use monitoring information to improve programme delivery.
The role is suited to an experienced professional who can combine technical knowledge with strong leadership, financial oversight, partnership management and an understanding of public health systems.
• Senior leadership experience within an international development organisation.
• Opportunity to lead a major public health and nutrition initiative in India.
• Professional engagement with national and state government authorities, donors and research institutions.
• Experience overseeing programme budgets, implementation plans and multidisciplinary teams.
• Opportunity to contribute to evidence informed health policy and stronger health systems.
• Competitive remuneration and employment benefits, subject to the current vacancy terms.
• Access to a collaborative international working environment.
Applicants should confirm the current salary, benefits package and employment conditions in the official vacancy announcement, as these details may vary or change.

• Document implementation lessons and communicate findings to support future programme development.
Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications and experience.
• A PhD or MD from a recognised university in nutrition, public health, reproductive health or a related discipline.
• Approximately 10 to 12 years of relevant professional experience with international nongovernmental organisations, United Nations agencies or comparable organisations working in public health, reproductive health or nutrition.
• At least five years of senior level project management experience.

• Knowledge of Hindi or local languages spoken in the project states is an advantage. Knowledge of Marathi may also be beneficial.
• Strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, integrity and a commitment to measurable programme results.
The current vacancy announcement should be consulted for the definitive list of required documents. Applicants should prepare the following materials where requested.
