The Mastercard Foundation, in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU), invites applications from exceptional African students for the 2026 ASU Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. This initiative aims to empower high-achieving, community-minded individuals to pursue graduate studies in technology, innovation, and related fields, with the goal of returning to Africa to contribute to sustainable development.
What the Scholarship Covers
Selected scholars will receive full financial support, including:
- Tuition, books, and mandatory fees
- On-campus housing and medical insurance
- Visa, English test, and application costs
- Round-trip airfare to Phoenix, Arizona
- Leadership programming, mentorship, and enrichment activities
- A 2-month internship between the first and second year

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered, applicants must meet these core conditions:
- Be a citizen of an African country
- Be aged between 18 and 33 by the application deadline
- Hold a bachelor’s degree conferred by August 2026
- Not have begun or completed a prior graduate degree
- Demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership potential
- Show commitment to community engagement and ethical leadership
- Satisfy admission requirements for the chosen master’s program (including English proficiency)
- Be able to reside in Phoenix, Arizona, for the duration of the program
Application Process & Timeline
- Deadline: Sunday, 14 September 2025 (23:59 GMT)
- Applicants must first apply for the scholarship; shortlisted candidates will then be guided to apply for ASU admission
- Interviews (video or phone) will follow the shortlisting process
- Final award decisions will be announced by February 2026
- The program commences in August 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona
Only complete and eligible applications submitted before the deadline will be reviewed. Those not meeting the requirements will not be considered.
