Conservation International (CI) is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting nature for the well-being of humanity. For over three decades, CI has worked in more than 100 countries to preserve biodiversity, address climate change, and promote sustainable development. Through a combination of cutting-edge science, field partnerships, and innovative financing, CI aims to ensure that people and nature thrive together.
The organization’s work is grounded in collaboration, with governments, businesses, Indigenous peoples, civil society, and local communities, to design solutions that benefit both ecosystems and human livelihoods. CI’s commitment extends from the world’s most biodiverse forests to coastal ecosystems that sustain millions of people.
About the Seed Fund
The Seed Fund is one of CI’s strategic initiatives, designed to support large-scale, country-led programs that protect high-biodiversity and high-carbon ecosystems such as tropical forests, mangroves, peatlands, and marine habitats. These initiatives, known as “Country Packages,” are co-developed with governments, private sector partners, and philanthropic organizations. The Fund operates as a collaborative platform that provides technical, financial, and policy support to countries leading conservation efforts aligned with global climate and biodiversity goals.
So far, the Seed Fund has mobilized more than €115 million in commitments, with a target of €200 million. Early donors include the Government of France, the Rob Walton Foundation, and the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation. The Fund has active programs in Ghana, Gabon, Peru, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, and Papua New Guinea, among others.
