The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is pleased to announce the 2026 Internship Programme at its Regional Office for Africa (RAF). FAO leads global initiatives to eradicate hunger, promote food security, and ensure that everyone has reliable access to high-quality nutrition. Operating in over 130 countries with more than 195 Members, FAO tackles key agricultural and sustainability challenges worldwide.
Programme Overview
This internship offers motivated, early-career professionals the chance to bring fresh perspectives and academic know-how into FAO’s work. Interns will gain hands-on experience aligned with their academic background and FAO’s mission, complementing their formal studies with real-world practice.
Reporting & Supervision
Each intern will be assigned a supervisor. The intern’s responsibilities will reflect the Terms of Reference (TOR) defined by the hosting FAO office, tailored to match the intern’s skills and the organization’s needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out tasks detailed in the TOR, supporting FAO’s technical work.
- Engage in projects with relevance to FAO’s core mission within Africa.
- Contribute to analytics, reports, data collection, planning, or coordination efforts, as determined by your placement.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate or graduate programme (from an institution recognized in the World Higher Education Database).
- Hold a specialization relevant to FAO’s areas of work (e.g. agriculture, food systems, environment, rural development).
- Demonstrate working proficiency in at least one of FAO’s official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, or Spanish). Knowledge of a second language is an asset.
- Be a national of an FAO Member country.
- Be aged between 21 and 30 years.
- Possess strong communication skills, adaptability in multicultural settings, and the capacity for teamwork.
