The Gerald D. Feldman Travel Grants · Bonn, Germany
Applications are open for the Gerald D. Feldman Travel Grants 2026, offered by the Max Weber Foundation to support internationally oriented researchers in the humanities and social sciences who are in the qualification phase. The grant is designed to help researchers carry out independent research projects involving international institutions, libraries and archives while strengthening their academic development.
The programme supports researchers who wish to conduct a self chosen research project in at least two and at most three host countries where Max Weber Foundation institutes and branches are located, or at the Richard Koebner Minerva Center for German History in Israel. Research stays are intended particularly for work in libraries and archives and should contribute to transnational or transregional research with new and original academic perspectives.
The total funded research period may not exceed three months, with a maximum of one month at each host country. Shorter stays are possible. The research placements should ideally be completed within 12 months and no later than 24 months, allowing successful applicants to integrate international research into their broader academic projects.
The Gerald D. Feldman Travel Grants are awarded annually by the Max Weber Foundation, also known as the German Humanities Institutes Abroad. The programme is intended to improve the career opportunities of researchers working on internationally oriented projects in the humanities and social sciences.
Successful applicants conduct research at qualifying institutions in different countries. The programme particularly encourages projects involving transnational or comparative research questions and research that can contribute to further academic qualification.
Eligible host locations include countries such as Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Israel, Japan, the United States, India, Turkey, Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Lebanon, Egypt, Georgia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Singapore, subject to the current participating institutes and available arrangements.
