Teach For Uganda STEM Fellowship 2026

Applications are open for the Teach For Uganda STEM Fellowship 2026, a leadership and teaching opportunity designed for young STEM graduates who want to contribute to improving secondary education in Uganda. The fellowship is a pilot programme implemented under the Leaders in Teaching Program, a flagship initiative supported by the Mastercard Foundation and led by the Luigi Giussani Foundation through a consortium of education partners.

The programme responds to the need for more capable, committed and well supported STEM teachers in Uganda, particularly women who can help learners develop the skills, confidence and imagination needed for a changing world. Selected fellows will be placed in secondary schools and supported to become effective teachers, mentors and role models, with particular attention to encouraging girls to participate in STEM subjects.

The Teach For Uganda STEM Fellowship combines classroom experience with structured preparation, coaching, leadership development and continuous professional development. Fellows will teach in secondary schools while developing skills in education, community engagement, problem solving, monitoring and evaluation, and leadership.

About the Fellowship

The Teach For Uganda STEM Fellowship is a leadership pathway that brings high potential STEM graduates into secondary school classrooms. The programme is based on the belief that teaching is a form of leadership and that strong teachers can influence learners, communities and wider education systems.

Fellows will receive training before entering the classroom and ongoing support throughout the fellowship. The programme focuses on learner centered and practical STEM education, encouraging students to ask questions, test ideas, solve problems and connect classroom learning to real world challenges.

The fellowship also places strong emphasis on increasing the participation and visibility of young women in STEM education. Fellows can support science clubs, technology and ICT clubs, mathematics groups, environmental projects, engineering activities and girls in STEM mentorship initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Teach For Uganda STEM Fellowship 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be a female Ugandan citizen or a refugee currently residing in Uganda

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field

• Have a minimum CGPA of 3.0

• Be between 22 and 27 years old at the time of application

• Be proficient in English

• Be flexible and willing to be placed in any Universal Secondary Education secondary school

• Demonstrate commitment to education equity, leadership and community change

• Be willing to undertake a fully funded one year Postgraduate Diploma in Education during the first year of the fellowship

• Be willing to teach and serve in secondary school classrooms

• Be open to coaching, feedback and continuous learning

• Demonstrate strong STEM knowledge and an interest in developing as a teacher
