The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) offers outstanding international students from non-EU/EEA countries the opportunity to pursue a Master’s degree at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. This merit-based award is granted to exceptional candidates who demonstrate strong academic potential and leadership qualities.

Number of Awards
Each year, approximately 50 scholarships are awarded to outstanding students.
Scholarship Value and Duration
- The scholarship ranges from €3,000 to €22,000 for one academic year.
- For two-year master’s programs, students may receive an additional award in their second year—provided they meet the renewal criteria.
- The scholarship is intended to support study and living costs; it does not automatically cover tuition fees.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the UTS, applicants must:
- Be citizens of a non-EU/EEA country.
- Have not previously earned a degree from the University of Twente.
- Have received conditional or unconditional admission to one of the eligible master’s programs for the upcoming academic year (starting in September).
- Possess a valid student number at the time of application.
- Meet the visa and residence permit requirements for the Netherlands.
- Demonstrate English language proficiency (minimum IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90, with a speaking subscore of at least 6.0 or 20).
- Not qualify for Dutch student finance or loans.
- Belong to the top 5–10% of their graduating class academically.
Important Notes
- Students from EU/EEA countries are not eligible.
- The scholarship does not apply to pre-Master programs or courses within the Faculty of Geo-Information Science & Earth Observation (ITC).
- If a recipient later becomes eligible for the Dutch statutory tuition fee, the scholarship may be withdrawn.
Renewal Conditions (for Two-Year Programs)
To maintain the scholarship for a second year, recipients must:
- Achieve an average grade of 7.0 or higher by the end of the third quartile of their first year.
- Complete at least 50% of the required European credits by that point.
Application Process
- Apply for admission to a qualifying master’s program at the University of Twente.
- Once admitted (conditionally or unconditionally), you will receive a student number.
- Use that student number to submit a separate application for the University of Twente Scholarship.
- The UTS application is independent of your academic admission process.
Application Deadlines
- Round 1: Opens 15 October – Closes 1 February 2026 (16:00 CET)
- Round 2: Opens 1 February – Closes 1 May 2026 (16:00 CET)
Applicants rejected in the first round may reapply during the second round, though only one UTS award can be held per program.
Additional Opportunities
- Kipaji Scholarship: UTS recipients from developing countries may also be considered for additional financial support through the Kipaji Fund.
- NL Scholarship (Holland Scholarship): Some UTS awardees may qualify for an extra €5,000 grant in their first year of study.
