About the Microgrant

The Global South Civil Society Microgrants were established to strengthen connections between investigative journalism and community action. For the 2026 funding cycle, proposals must focus on one of three key climate and environmental themes:

• Rainforests: Examining the drivers of rainforest degradation, including the influence of global markets, finance, and public policy, while highlighting the rights and knowledge of Indigenous peoples and local communities.
• Ocean: Exploring issues affecting ocean health, marine ecosystems, climate change, ocean governance, and science-based or community-led solutions.
• Climate and Labor: Investigating the intersection of climate change and labor, including livelihoods, gender, adaptation strategies, and community resilience.

Grant Benefits

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are welcome from:

• Grassroots organizations.
• Civil society organizations (CSOs).
• Community educators.
• Civic coalitions.
• Youth movements.
• Community-led groups working at the intersection of journalism, civic engagement, and active citizenship.

Applicants should also demonstrate:

• Experience implementing civic engagement initiatives.
• Work related to climate, environmental, or community issues.
• The capacity to manage grant funding from an international organization.
• A track record of collaborating effectively with communities and partners.
