Big Ten Academic Alliance and the Smithsonian Institution
Applications are now open for the Big Ten Academic Alliance Smithsonian Fellowship 2026. The fellowship provides advanced doctoral candidates from participating Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) universities with the opportunity to conduct dissertation research at the Smithsonian Institution under the guidance of Smithsonian advisers.
The programme supports scholars who have completed all doctoral coursework and advanced to candidacy, enabling them to access the Smithsonian's world-class collections, laboratories, archives, libraries, museums, and research facilities. Fellows receive an annual stipend of USD 45,000, along with a research allowance of up to USD 5,000 to support eligible research-related expenses.
Established through a partnership between the Big Ten Academic Alliance and the Smithsonian Institution, the fellowship aims to strengthen doctoral research by providing scholars with access to the Smithsonian's unique research resources and expert mentorship.
